The Townsville University Hospital are seeking an experienced and client focused Registered Nurse to join their Post Anaesthetic Care Department.

Continuous Shift work and on call is mandatory for all staff working within this unit.

About the opportunity   

The purpose of the Registered Nurse in Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU) is to provide post operative cares to patients both adult and paediatric, immediately following general/regional anaesthetics. The Registered Nurse is to provide direct nursing care utilising clinical skills, education and support to patients/clients and nursing staff within the 18-bed bay PACU to ensure the provision of best practice and quality patient care.  

The PACU supports the 15 Operating Theatres and outlie areas such as Medical Imaging and Cathlab. Continuous Shift work and on call is mandatory for all staff working within this unit.

PLEASE NOTE - This is a permanent part-time role, working 32 hours per fortnight.

Role requirements

  • Qualification: Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent certification relevant to the position is mandatory.
  • This is a Vaccine Preventable Disease (VPD) risk role. Hepatitis B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis and Tuberculosis.

The ideal applicant will be someone who has proven ability and can demonstrate the following:

    • Comprehensively assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care.
    • Knowledge of legal and professional responsibilities.
    • Demonstrated Airway management skills.
    • Demonstrated skills and knowledge in the role of a PACU nurse as outlined in ACORN and ANZCA PS04.
    • Build and maintain effective relationships with the multidisciplinary team, patients and other stakeholders, including participation in relevant networks.
    • High standard of written and oral communication skills within the multidisciplinary team, patients and their families.
    • Use or learn to use information systems appropriate to the position.
    • Provide clinical education and support and demonstrate own ongoing professional development.
    • Competency as outlined in the NMBA - Registered nurse standards for practice.
