The SMHRU unit offers mental health rehabilitation services for individuals needing extended inpatient care in a secure environment. Our focus is on autonomy, self-determination, and working collaboratively towards independent living. All consumers are over 18 years of age.

About Your New Role
Are you passionate about advocating for mental health services and promoting respectful inclusion? A rare and exciting opportunity has become available for several Peer Workers (Identified - Mental Health Lived Experience - Secure Mental Health Rehabilitation Unit) to join our newly developed Secure Mental Health Unit and make a positive difference in the lives of others.
Key Responsibilities
- Support consumers along their personal recovery journey whilst appropriately sharing your own personal lived experience of mental ill-health, service use and healing/recovery
- Support consumers to develop individual recovery plans incorporating their self-identified recovery goals, aspirations and strengths
- Provide peer support, practical assistance, education, information and referrals to consumers
- Plan, facilitate and evaluate peer support groups, and educational programs for consumers
Qualifications
To be successful in this position you will require:
- Under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991, there is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be a person with lived/living experience of mental ill-health and healing/recovery
- While not mandatory, a Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work or similar is highly desired
- While not mandatory, experience working as a Peer Worker in a public mental is highly desirable
- Evidence of vaccination, or be able to be vaccinated against and remain vaccinated against - Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis and Hepatitis B
- Tuberculosis screening, to identify if the tuberculosis vaccination may be required
- Declaration of serious discipline history must be disclosed
- Criminal History Screening will be required for new employees (GCH will cover cost)

Salary
- Permanent full time (three positions)
- Base salary ranging from $79 272 - $88 158 per annum
