About us:

The Cairns and Hinterland Mental Health and AOD Services is responsible for delivering mental health and AOD services throughout the Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service and for supporting other mental health and AOD services in the surrounding Hospital and Health Services of Cape York, Torres Strait Northern Peninsula Area. Its primary objective is to ensure access to a comprehensive range of treatment and support services, clinical treatment, rehabilitation, disability support, as well as early intervention, and mental health prevention and promotion.
 
Access Services consists of a large number of specialty mental health services which assist consumers to access the right clinical service at the right time. This includes connecting consumers with other aspects of the MHAOD service and/or the primary health care sector. Teams in Access services include (but are not limited to) Acute Care Team, Centralised Intake Service MH CALL, QAS and QPS Co-Responders, sub-acute residential services, Perinatal and Infant Mental Health, Primary Mental Health Care Liaison and Mental Health Hospital in the Home.
 
The Mental Health Hospital in The Home program (MH-HITH) will provide hospital substitution care, providing inpatient assessment and treatment services outside the hospital setting for people presenting/experiencing with acute episode of mental illness. The objective of the program is to provide consumers with individualised assessment and treatment alongside a supportive framework for the family/carers in their own home to manage an acute mental health issue that otherwise required inpatient care.

  • Drawing on your lived experience of recovery, support consumers to identify their own achievable and meaningful recovery goals, including planning to make positive changes to achieve these.
  • Apply thoughtful and ethical decision making, with support and guidance as required, to act within operational and professional boundaries.
