About us:
Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service provide an extensive range of health services at more than 30 regional, rural and remote facilities across a geographical area of 142,900 square kilometres. The Health Service is 95 percent self-sufficient with only a small number of high- level acute services being provided in Townsville and Brisbane.
Yarrabah Emergency Service is a unique rural and remote healthcare facility located in the Aboriginal community of Yarrabah, around 50 km from Cairns in Far North Queensland. The service provides 24/7 emergency care to a close-knit community of approximately 2,500 residents and works closely with local primary healthcare providers and retrieval services.
For Registered Nurses, Yarrabah offers a highly rewarding environment where clinicians can work to an expanded scope of practice across emergency, acute, chronic disease, and community-focused care. Nurses are supported by experienced multidisciplinary teams, telehealth retrieval services, point-of-care testing, and strong collaboration with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health workers.
The hospital and surrounding health services place strong emphasis on culturally safe, patient-centred care and meaningful community engagement. Staff have the opportunity to build genuine relationships with patients and contribute to improving health outcomes for First Nations peoples in a rural setting.
