About TAFE Queensland

TAFE Queensland is proud to be the largest and most experienced Vocational Education and Training (VET) provider in the State. For more than 140 years, TAFE Queensland has delivered practical and industry-relevant training to provide students with the skills and experience they need to build lifelong careers. Our award-winning training is delivered on campus, online, and in the workplace to give people the skills they need to enrich their communities, support their industries, and strengthen their local economies.

By working at TAFE Queensland, you can be part of a highly experienced workforce that is closely connected with their industries and dedicated to delivering best practices and innovative training.

Your Opportunity

TAFE Queensland proudly delivers maritime training as part of our commitment to the Pacific Maritime Training Services (PMTS). This initiative ensures Pacific Island Countries receive relevant training with a standardised approach.  This opportunity is for experienced maritime professionals who want to shape the future of the industry, share what they’ve learned, and remain deeply connected to maritime operations-without leaving a lasting impact to chance.

Our Maritime Educator talent pool brings together professionals who can deliver training across a broad spectrum of maritime disciplines. Depending on your background, experience, and interests, educators may teach in areas such as:

  • Maritime Operations (including Navigation, ECDIS, GMDSS and vessel operations)
  • Seamanship (basic and advanced, watchkeeping, small boat operations)
  • Leadership and Management
  • Technical and maintenance-focused training
  • Safety, emergency response, communications, and operational readiness

This flexible model allows educators to teach where they are strongest, while contributing to a cohesive and professional training environment that reflects real-world maritime operations.

Turn experience into influence - Your sea time, decision-making, leadershi, and problem-solving become the foundation for how future mariners think and operate.

Teach across disciplines-or specialise- Whether your strength is navigation, seamanship, leadership, or technical systems, there is room to focus your expertise while building your teaching capability over time.

Real-world training, delivered by real mariners- This isn't about theory alone. It's about context, judgement, standards, and professionalism-taught by people who've lived the job.

Shape culture, not just competence- Educators in this pool help instil safety awareness, teamwork, maintenance discipline, leadership, and communication-qualities that define strong maritime professionals.

A respected pathway ashore - Teaching offers stability, variety, and long-term professional growth, while keeping you meaningfully connected to the maritime industry.

This is your opportunity to share your expertise and mentor maritime professionals in a dynamic and enjoyable training environment. The maritime industry depends on skilled people passing on what they know-before it's lost. This is your opportunity to turn years of experience into capability, confidence, and culture for the next generation of mariners.

Whether your background is operational, seamanship-focused, leadership-driven, or technical-there's a place for you in our Maritime Educator talent pool.

TAFE Queensland regularly has vacancies (short and long term) for educators in various qualification delivery areas. This talent pool is for opportunities as they become available.
