About the role

Working closely with community members, health professionals and partner services, you will contribute to safe, high‑quality care and positive health outcomes across the region.

  • Building strong partnerships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, health services and community‑controlled organisations to support access, continuity of care and follow‑up.
  • Assisting with the assessment, coordination and evaluation of care, supported by contemporary knowledge of Indigenous health issues at a local, state and national level.
  • Supporting health promotion and education activities within communities and schools, while contributing to a strong culture of patient safety and clinical governance.

Requirements

  • Mandatory possession of a Certificate IV in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care or Diploma of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care.
  • If you do not hold the relevant qualification but believe you have the ability to perform the role, there is an opportunity you may be appointed at the “No Qualification level ( NQ)" for a fixed term, subject to engaging and participating in a learning agreement to obtain the required qualification(s) with essential level support under HR Policy G10 Study and Research Assistance Scheme (SARAS) or the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workforce Education Scheme.
  • To perform this role, it is essential that the person who holds the position be an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. It is therefore a genuine occupational requirement under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 that applicants are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders.  
  • Applicants are advised this position works in an identified Aged Care Facility as per the Aged Care Act 1997 and therefore requires employees and volunteers to have a current National Police Certificate. Queensland Health will facilitate applicants obtaining the above National Police Certificate.
  • C Class Motor Vehicle Licence.
  • Pre-employment screening will be conducted for the successful applicant, including Criminal History checks.
  • This is a VPD risk role and may require evidence of vaccination or immunity to: Hepatitis A/B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis, and Tuberculosis.
  • A period of probation may apply.
