About the opportunity
Provide expert clinical leadership and coordination to scope, develop, implement, embed and continuously improve Day Surgery by Default (DSbD) and Criteria Led Discharge (CLD) models of care across Surgical Services as part of the SAFEST SurgiFLOW program. The Clinical Nurse Consultant – CLD Coordinator leads data informed clinical redesign, stakeholder engagement and change management processes to support improved patient outcomes, patient experience, surgical flow and health system performance. The role supports implementation across planned and unplanned surgical pathways, ensuring DSbD and CLD principles are applied consistently to appropriate procedures and patient cohorts. The role may be required to work across multiple facilities within the Hospital and Health Service (HHS), supporting coordinated implementation of DSbD and CLD pathways across surgical services.
Works with: Surgical governance groups, Patient Safety, Quality Improvement / Clinical Redesign team, Patient Experience Team, Patient Flow Unit, Theatre/ORMIS teams, Preadmission Clinic, Day Surgery Unit, Surgical wards, Same Day Unit, Recovery/Post Anaesthetic Care Unit, Allied Health, Community, Bed Management, Discharge Coordinators, Booking & Scheduling, Post-Operative Discharge Support Service (PODSS), National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP) team, Healthcare Improvement Unit (HIU) program leads.
The ideal applicant will be someone who has proven ability and can demonstrate the following:
- Provide expert nursing leadership and coordination within a surgical environment.
- Sound knowledge of contemporary nursing practice and theory and the ability to apply relevant legislation, guidelines and standards.
- Integrate the strategic direction and priorities for quality improvement into the clinical service, establishing a quality framework.
- Advanced leadership, negotiation, conflict resolution and change management skills to ensure customer focused service provision amongst the multidisciplinary team.
- High level of communication skills required for problem solving and decision making.
- Use information and reporting systems appropriate to the position.
- Ongoing professional development of self and others.
