About the Team
Queensland Child and Adolescent Renal Service is a state-wide tertiary paediatric nephrology service, based in Queensland Children's Hospital in Brisbane providing paediatric nephrology care for children and adolescents of Queensland and the northern part of New South Wales with conditions affecting the kidneys and urinary tract. These conditions include general nephrological problems such as congenital anomalies of the kidneys and urinary tract, genetic renal conditions, nephrotic syndrome, nephritic syndrome, management of chronic kidney disease and end-stage kidney disease, including both forms of dialysis (peritoneal dialysis and haemodialysis) and kidney transplantation and apheresis service, including therapeutic plasma exchange.
About the Role
The Queensland Child and Adolescent Renal Service provides consultation services on renal conditions for a wide variety of clinical care providers and deliver multidisciplinary services in conjunction with other teams based at Queensland Children's Hospital (paediatric surgery, rheumatology, Paediatric Intensive Care and others).
Senior Medical Officers work without supervision in a multi-disciplinary team to promote the health and wellbeing of children and families. The successful candidate is expected to participate in the delivery of contemporary, multidisciplinary models of clinical care for patients with kidney disease, inclusive of outpatient and outreach clinics, and telehealth; inpatient care (including dialysis and transplantation), and on call roster; educational activities, including teaching of medical students, junior medical staff and allied health; and to be involved in research.
The intent of this position is:
- To provide clinical supervision and leadership in the prevention, diagnosis, and management of kidney disorders through comprehensive, compassionate care for infants, children, and adolescents.
- To provide effective and timely communication and consultation processes within the service, and with families, referring clinicians and other health services.
- To actively promote and model family-centred-care principles and practices in the delivery of services. Involve consumers in design and evaluation of services.
- To participate and lead clinical experiences and educational opportunities for trainees to build a solid foundation of medical knowledge, critical thinking abilities, literature review, diagnostic acumen and technical skills
- To demonstrate professionalism by mentorship, validating the critical roles of personal ethics, responsibility, respect, compassion, communication, and self-awareness.
- To actively contribute to the hospital and health service and professional community.
