About your opportunity

Joyce Palmer Health Service (JPHS) consists of an Emergency Department, 15 bed inpatient unit, renal dialysis services and home care services. The purpose of this position is to provide high quality, evidence-based nursing care to the people of Palm Island. This will include working in all areas of emergency and inpatient services.

You will probably walk to work on Palm Island, which is a vibrant and expanding community. There isn't much traffic, the beach is nearby, the fishing is excellent, and the rainforest grows on the outskirts of town. The neighbourhood pharmacy, general shop, butcher, post office, schools, and youth centre are all located on Palm Island. Residents frequently travel to the mainland to enjoy the entertainment and shopping options in neighbouring Townsville. 

The locals of Palm Island are incredibly welcoming and appreciative of the public healthcare services provided.

Competitive salary and benefits:

We offer attractive remuneration packages and generous leave entitlements.

  • Salary range: $87,368 to $112,064 p.a. (Nurse Grade 5)
  • 4 to 6 weeks annual leave with 14%-17.5% loading
  • 12.75% employer contribution to superannuation
  • Plus Salary Sacrificing options may be available

Requirements:

Mandatory qualifications and proof of registration (if applicable)

  • Qualification: Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent certification relevant to the position is mandatory.
  • Mandatory: Extensive experience in Emergency Department and a current Advanced Life Support certificate.
  • Mandatory - Adult Life Support certificate: Must obtain and maintain an annual competency in Advanced Life Support as per THHSCLI040151 Life Support Training and Assessment
  • Desirable: Completion of a trauma course or working towards completion of a trauma course.
  • Travel: Travel by light aircraft may be required.
  • Accommodation: On-site single staff accommodation will be provided for the successful applicant.
