About the role
Provide clinical specialist forensic medical care to patients in the Gold Coast area and an informed, impartial and competent forensic service to the Queensland Police Service, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, the Courts, the Coroner and the legal profession, making a substantial contribution to the development of a culture of medical education and safe, effective patient-centered clinical practice.
Requirements for the role
- Evidence of vaccination, or be able to be vaccinated against - Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis, Hepatitis B and Tuberculosis screening.
- Declaration of serious discipline history must be disclosed.
- MBBS or equivalent registrable with the Medical Board of Australia and registrable as a medical practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Fellowship of the Faculty of Clinical Forensic Medicine (FFCFM) or equivalent acceptable to the Royal College of Pathologists Australasia.
- Candidates with Fellowship of the Australasian College of Legal Medicine (FACLM) or Fellowship of the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine (FACEM) or Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP) or Fellowship of the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (FACRRM) will be considered if they can demonstrate appropriate skills and experience, and hold or have enrolled in the Master of Forensic Medicine degree (Monash University) or equivalent qualification.
- Candidates without FFCFM, FACLM, FACEM, FRACGP or FACRRM may also be considered if they can demonstrate appropriate skills and experience and hold or have enrolled in the Master of Forensic Medicine degree (Monash University).
- Incumbents of this position are not eligible to receive the Emergency Department Specialty Allowance nor non-clinical time.
- Certified copies of relevant qualification/s and registration must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager, prior to the commencement of clinical duties.
- While not mandatory, experience in providing expert forensic medical services, police statements and expert opinions for court purposes would be well regarded.
- While not mandatory, experience in teaching and supervision of doctors and nurses training in the field would be well regarded.
- This position requires participation in a 7-day extended hours roster with after-hours on call:
- physical recall and digi-recall for Clinical Forensic Medicine.
- digi-recall only for Custodial Medicine.
- The successful applicant will need to apply for unrestricted access to certain police establishments. At their discretion, the Queensland Police Service may require a criminal history check (if required, this will be in addition to Queensland Health requirements).
Salary information
- Permanent part time (40-80 hours per fortnight)
- Senior Staff Specialist or Staff Specialist: Base hourly rate from $103.80 - $131.61 p.h
- Senior Medical Officer - Advanced Credentialed Practice: Base hourly rate from $103.80 - $124.13 p.h
- Senior Medical Officer: Base hourly rate from $89.87 - $103.80 p.h
- Senior Medical Officer - No Specialist Registration: Base hourly rate $89.87 p.h
- Up to 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
