About the Team

The Eating Disorders Program (EDP) is a specialist mental health clinical service and part of the child and youth mental health services (CYMHS) within Children's Health Queensland Hospital and Health Service (CHQ HHS).   

The Eating Disorders Program (EDP) takes a family and child-centred approach in working with children and adolescents with a primary eating disorder diagnosis. The EDP provides evidence-based clinical services for children, young people up to 18 years of age, and their families in the greater Brisbane area and some services across Queensland using telehealth. The range of clinical services include face-to- face and telehealth assessment and treatment; case-based consultation and liaison; online psychoeducation for parents and carers; training and supervision for mental health and other clinicians.

The Eating Disorders Program consists of two teams: Community Team and Eating Disorders Day Program Team.  The EDP Community team is in Upper Mount Gravatt.  The EDP Day Program is based at Chermside.   As a multi-site program, staff are required to work flexibility across sites to support workflow and ensure consumers have accessible and sustainable services. 

About the Role

The Clinical Nurse (CN) within the Eating Disorders Program (EDP) Community Team provides advanced clinical expertise and high-level problem‑solving skills in the specialist area of child and youth eating disorders. The role is responsible for the comprehensive clinical management of children and young people with diagnosed eating disorders, while actively supporting their families and carers, ensuring care is delivered in line with quality and safety standards.

Working autonomously within a multidisciplinary mental health team, the Clinical Nurse plays a pivotal role in the planning, coordination, and delivery of specialist nursing care. The position requires expert clinical judgement and advanced care coordination skills to effectively manage complex presentations across community and specialist eating disorder service settings.

The Clinical Nurse provides strong clinical leadership, contributing to professional and clinical practice. This includes involvement in workforce education, supervision, and participation in research and evidence-based practice initiatives.

The role also supports service management functions through the delivery of designated portfolio responsibilities, quality improvement activities, and service development initiatives.

  • Assumes responsibility for professional leadership in the service in the absence of the Nurse Grade 7
  • Applies critical thinking across all the domains
