Your opportunity
To provide specialist advice and support for all contemporary medical workforce matters including recruitment and selection, mandatory pre-employment and terms and conditions of employment, credentialing and scope of clinical practice, and strategic workforce planning.
To provide leadership and management of the Medical Workforce team to deliver a quality and client-focused service to internal and external stakeholders. Ensure medical officer recruitment, appointments and ongoing employment including scope of clinical practice complies with mandatory legislative, policy, and procedural requirements across the HHS.
About the Team
The Medical Workforce Unit (MWU) at Mackay Base Hospital provides essential operational and strategic workforce support to all medical services across the Mackay Hospital and Health Service (MHHS). As a central coordination point for the full lifecycle of the medical workforce, the MWU ensures that medical officers are appropriately recruited, credentialed, rostered, supported, and compliant with relevant Queensland Health, accreditation, and regulatory requirements. The unit plays a critical role in maintaining safe, effective, and sustainable medical staffing across the health service clinical operations.
The MWU is responsible for delivering end-to-end recruitment for senior, junior, and locum medical officers; coordinating medical rosters, term allocations, leave management, and emergent workforce coverage; and managing AHPRA registration, supervision arrangements, and regulatory obligations, particularly for international medical graduates. The unit supports the prevocational and junior medical workforce through coordination of rotations, and compliance with the new two-year prevocational training program.
In addition, the MWU provides high-level administrative coordination, reporting, and governance support to clinical departments and MHHS executive leadership. The team partners closely with People and Culture, clinical leaders, specialist colleges, regulatory bodies, and external agencies to ensure timely, reliable, and compliant workforce processes. Through its broad-ranging responsibilities, the MWU contributes significantly to patient safety, service continuity, workforce sustainability, and the overall effectiveness of medical services across MHHS.
