Role details

The Division of Surgical Services at the Mackay Base Hospital is seeking applications for a Clinical Nurse (Orthopaedics) to join their team on a permanent basis.

Your opportunity

The Clinical Nurse (CN) - Orthopaedic provides nursing services within the health service settings; and is responsible for a portfolio with a focus on clinical care/leadership, management, education and/or research.  The activities are predominantly clinical in nature, but also provide support to a Nurse Grade 7 or above in management activities. The CN Orthopaedic provides advanced level clinical skills to ensure patient-focused evidence-based nursing care plans and coordinates the clinical management of patient/client care and provides leadership and support to other nursing staff.

The Clinical Nurse – Orthopaedic will manage the patient's journey and prepare patients for their surgical procedure covering Pre-admission clinics, pre-operative management/ screening, patient education, audits, and statistics. The Clinical Nurse Orthopaedic also audits all trauma neck of femur (NOF) fracture patients and enters data to the NOF registry. The aim is to ensure all patients are medically fit and well prepared and educated for their procedure and subsequent discharge.

The division supports a multidisciplinary approach to treatment and recovery, with a strong focus on safety, innovation, efficiency, and improving patient outcomes. Working collaboratively across medical, nursing, allied health, and operational teams, the Division of Surgical Services plays a key role in meeting the growing healthcare needs of the community.
