About us:
The Telecommunications (Switch) Unit within Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service (CHHHS) provides a centralised communication and coordination service supporting all hospital facilities and services.
The unit is responsible for the operation of the hospital switchboard, ensuring efficient handling and routing of incoming and outgoing calls across the health service. It serves as a critical 24/7 contact point for staff, patients, visitors, and external stakeholders.
Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service provide an extensive range of health services at more than 30 regional, rural and remote facilities across a geographical area of 142,900 square kilometres. The Health Service is 95 percent self-sufficient with only a small number of high-level acute services being provided in Townsville and Brisbane.

About your role:
- Prioritise all Hospital Emergency calls and alarms both internal and external and liaise with the appropriate Emergency Providers.
- Attend courteously to all telephone enquiries and clients' requests, displaying tact, diplomacy and interpersonal skills of a high standard when dealing with the public and members of staff.
- Ensure the daily medical on call rosters are maintained accurately and distributed to the relevant departments.
