About the work unit / facility

The Townsville University Hospital Operating Theatre is a high‑performing perioperative service, featuring 15 operating theatres, including a state‑of‑the‑art Hybrid Theatre with advanced imaging. Delivering Level 5–6 services (CSCF v3.1), the unit provides a diverse and complex surgical casemix across a broad range of specialties.

These include cardiac, neurosurgery, vascular, thoracic, orthopaedics, trauma, paediatrics, ENT, plastics, urology, ophthalmology, obstetrics and gynaecology, and hepatobiliary and gastrointestinal surgery, as well as a growing kidney transplant service.

About your opportunity

This role offers the opportunity for an experienced Cardiothoracic Instrument and Circulating Nurse to join a high-performing perioperative team within a major tertiary facility. In this role, you will contribute to the delivery of safe, high-quality care across a diverse and complex surgical casemix, with a strong focus on cardiothoracic procedures.

Our nurses rotate across both elective and emergency theatres, working in instrument and circulating roles across cardiothoracic and other surgical specialties. This approach supports the development and maintenance of advanced clinical skills, while offering variety and ongoing professional growth within a collaborative and supportive team environment.

The position operates across a roster incorporating a mix of 10, 9, 8 and 6 hour shifts across morning and afternoon rosters to ensure continuity of care and service delivery. Participation in an on-call roster is required for staff deemed competent, providing further exposure to urgent and complex cases.

This role is well suited to a motivated and adaptable clinician who values teamwork, professional development, and the opportunity to work within a busy tertiary service with a broad and challenging clinical scope.
