About us:
Food Services is a large, high-volume and supportive team environment, delivering approximately 500–550 meals per service. The team includes 6 chefs and 8–9 kitchen assistants per shift across a 7-day roster, working collaboratively to ensure consistent, high-quality service. The kitchen currently operates a fresh, bulk-cooked plating line service and is transitioning to a contemporary on-demand model. As one of the largest kitchens in Cairns, the unit offers a well-structured workplace with clearly defined roles and a strong team culture focused on quality, efficiency, and patient care.
About your opportunity:
Lead with purpose and make a meaningful difference each day. As part of the Cairns Hospital Food Services team, you will provide hands-on leadership and day-to-day supervision across food preparation, production, presentation, and meal delivery.
You'll play a key role in ensuring patients receive safe, high-quality meals while supporting and guiding OO2 Food Services staff to deliver efficient, compassionate care. Your commitment to food safety, nutrition standards, and workplace health and safety will help drive excellence across our service.

In this position you will.......
- Coordinate daily staffing requirements, including staff allocation, management of sick calls, replacement staffing, workload prioritisation and resource redistribution to maintain safe and effective service levels.
- Plan, coordinate and conduct audits, inspections and quality checks relating to food service operations, including meal plating, delivery, food safety, cleaning, compliance and staff work practices.
- Review daily staffing levels to ensure adequate, effective and efficient staffing coverage is maintained, with accurate completion of staffing and attendance records.
- Ensure roster variations are accurately recorded and provide first-line support to staff regarding payroll, leave, and roster enquiries, resolving matters where possible and escalating when required.
- Assist in the implementation and delivery of staff education programs and provide instruction, training, coaching and support to OO2 Food Services staff.
