About the role
As a Resident Medical Officer (RMO) within the rotational Medical Pool at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital, you will play a central role in delivering safe, effective, and high-quality patient care across a diverse range of clinical specialties. This position offers structured rotations (typically 10–12 weeks or shorter half-term placements) through multiple disciplines, providing broad clinical exposure and a strong foundation for ongoing medical career development.
In this role, you will provide clinical and medical administrative services under appropriate supervision, contributing to all stages of patient care. This includes undertaking patient assessments, developing differential diagnoses, coordinating investigations, and implementing comprehensive management plans in line with contemporary evidence-based practice. You will assist in coordinating inpatient care, working closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure continuity, safety, and optimal patient outcomes.
The RMO role places a strong emphasis on communication, collaboration, and clinical development. You will engage regularly with consultants, registrars, nursing staff, and allied health professionals, while maintaining clear, professional communication with patients and their families. You will also contribute to teaching and supervision of interns, medical students, and more junior colleagues, supporting a culture of continuous learning.
This is a dynamic and developmental position that supports the growth of clinical capability, decision-making skills, and adaptability across varied clinical environments. You will actively participate in postgraduate medical education programs and maintain a strong commitment to professional, legal, and ethical standards in healthcare delivery.
