About us:
The Day Surgery Unit (DSU) and Perioperative Overnight Stay Unit (POSU) provides the following services within the surgical services of the Cairns Hospital:
- Admission of elective, trauma, and emergency patients on day of surgery.
- Stage two and three recovery for day surgery patients.
- Post operative inpatient surgical care for adults requiring less than 24hr admission.
- Scheduled minor surgical procedures under local anaesthetic.
- Admission and discharge for auxiliary procedures under GA including MRI.
- Admission and discharge of anaesthetic led procedures including allergy testing.
About your role:
- Admission of paediatric and adult patients for surgery.
- Stage 2 and 3 recovery and criteria led discharge.
- Comprehensive discharge education for patients and their support persons.
- Direct patient care including nursing assessments, evaluation and implementation of care plans.
- Medication administration and management, including pain and anti-emetic protocols.
