Metro South Health is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Carer Peer Worker to join the Adolescent Day Program within Child and Youth Mental Health Services. This unique role provides an opportunity to draw on your personal experience as a carer to support families and carers of young people experiencing complex mental health challenges.

Your new role

Working alongside a multidisciplinary team, you will help strengthen carer engagement, promote recovery-oriented practice and ensure the voices of carers and families are represented in service delivery and improvement initiatives.

As a Carer Peer Worker, you will:

  • Share your lived experience to inspire hope and support recovery-focused outcomes
  • Facilitate carer support groups, psychoeducation programs and advocacy activities
  • Assist carers and families to navigate services and access appropriate supports

About you

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has lived experience as a carer for a family member who has accessed mental health services
  • Can build meaningful relationships and work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders
  • Demonstrates empathy, resilience and a strong commitment to recovery-oriented practice
  • Has excellent communication and advocacy skills

Experience in mental health, community services, peer support or advocacy roles will be highly regarded. Qualifications such as a Certificate IV in Mental Health, Mental Health Peer Work or Community Services are desirable.

Identified Role

This is an identified position under Section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld). Applicants must have a personal lived/living experience as a carer for a family member who has used mental health services and provide a statement addressing this requirement within their application. Only candidates who meet this requirement will be considered.
