The role

The Registered Nurse (RN) within the Nursing and Midwifery Staffing Team (NMST) provides flexible workforce support across acute and non‑acute clinical areas within the Townsville Hospital and Health Service (THHS). NMST RNs are primarily deployed to manage emergent leave through daily shift‑to‑shift allocations.

NMST staff are supported through a collaborative model involving Nursing and Midwifery Workforce Services Clinical Nurses and local unit clinical leads.

The department

NMST staff work within Nursing and Midwifery Workforce Services (NMWS). NMWS provides centralised recruitment for base-grade nursing and midwifery positions and delivers a contingency workforce across all THHS facilities.

Requirements:

  • Qualification: Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent certification is a mandatory qualification for this position.
  • Highly Desirable: 12 month's post-registration experience in a Registered Nurse role.
  • Aged Care Pre-Employment Screening: Applicants are advised this position works in an identified Aged Care Facility as per the Aged Care Act 1997 and therefore requires employees and volunteers to have a current National Police Certificate. Queensland Health will facilitate applicants obtaining the above National Police Certificate.
  • Shift Availability: This casual position offers opportunities to work across a variety of shift types. Casual staff may indicate their availability and preferred shift patterns, with shifts allocated in line with the operational requirements and service needs.

  • Salary range: $55.07 - $70.64 p.h. (casual rate) (NG5)

The ideal applicant will be someone who has proven ability and can demonstrate the following:

  • Comprehensively assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of legal and professional responsibilities.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with the multidisciplinary team, patients and other stakeholders, including participation in relevant networks.
  • Maintain a high standard of written and oral communication skills with the multidisciplinary team, patients and their families.
  • Use, or demonstrate the ability to learn, information systems appropriate to the position.
  • Provide clinical education and support and demonstrate ongoing professional development.
  • Maintain competency as outlined in the NMBA – Registered Nurse Standards for Practice.
