An exciting opportunity currently exists for you to join the Building Engineering and Maintenance Services Team as an Airconditioning and Refrigeration Mechanic. In this role you will carry out preventative and corrective maintenance and minor works on all installed air conditioning, refrigeration, designated electrical systems and equipment in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications, good practice and task specifications within the Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service.

About us: The Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service covers a large geographic area with a diverse and growing population. The Health Service provides a wide range of primary care, acute and specialist services.Our staff are a part of the community we serve, and we strongly believe that health outcomes are enhanced by involving our community in the planning and evaluation of local health services.

Atherton Hospital services include emergency, general medical, surgical, low-risk maternity, cancer care, and renal dialysis services. Atherton Hospital has 56 inpatient beds, 10 emergency department treatment spaces, 5 HDU beds, 8 chemotherapy chairs, 8 dialysis chairs and 5 maternity beds as well as diagnostic support services such as medical imaging, pharmacy, and pathology.
The hospital is located in the picturesque Atherton Tablelands, 1.5 hours drive from Cairns. The hospital was redeveloped in 2023 and provides outreach services to Malanda, Millaa Millaa, Mount Garnet, Ravenshoe, Croydon, Forsayth and Georgetown.

About your role: Building, Engineering and Maintenance Services provide planning, construction, operation and maintenance of all district physical facilities, engineering systems, plant and equipment to meet strategic objectives within a quality environment. The BEMS team currently consist of professional, operational, administrative and trade staff. This role is responsible for the delivery of effective client focused Building and Asset Maintenance Services that comply with Queensland Health policies, including Building and Infrastructure Policy.

About you: In your new role you will:

  • Assist the Trade Coordinator in carrying out maintenance and project work, ensure allocated work is carried out promptly and efficiently.
  • Install air conditioning and refrigeration systems and sub-components with specific emphasis on evacuation and charging of gas circuits with the ability to conduct high quality silver soldering to effect same.
  • Support the delivery of capital projects in a live health service delivery environment ensuring no adverse impacts of on clinical service delivery, patients, visitors, and staff.
