About us:
At Rockhampton Hospital, we're proud to be at the heart of maternity care in Central Queensland, supporting around 1,400 births each year as the region's main birthing hub. Our dedicated team supports families every step of the way, offering a full range of maternity care - from antenatal clinics and education to our Birth Suite, antenatal and postnatal wards, the Special Care Nursery for newborns needing extra support, and the culturally safe care offered through the Gumma Gundoo Maternity Service.
Working alongside midwives and medical staff, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health workers provide personalised support, connection, and guidance, both within the hospital and through outreach clinics in Woorabinda and the Rockhampton community ensuring every woman feels supported, valued, and confident throughout her journey.
About the role:
- Deliver advanced, culturally responsive antenatal care to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and families, working across an all-risk model in partnership with multidisciplinary teams and regional maternity services.
- Practise with a high level of autonomy and clinical expertise, making informed decisions while collaborating closely with healthcare professionals to ensure safe, individualised, and woman-centred care across the pregnancy journey.
- Build strong, respectful relationships with women, their families, and communities, supporting informed choice, cultural needs, and continuity of care through evidence-based practice in both hospital and community settings.
- Contribute to education, quality improvement, and professional development, supporting colleagues and students while actively participating in research, learning, and initiatives that enhance maternity care outcomes.
About you:
- You hold registration as a Registered Midwife with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency with a current annual practising certificate and are commitment to delivering safe, high-quality, and culturally appropriate maternity care, particularly for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and families.
- You bring advanced clinical skills and critical thinking, with the proven ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care in complex environments while coordinating person-centred outcomes.
- You are a confident and supportive leader who can guide, mentor, and precept others, contributing positively to professional midwifery practice with integrity and a focus on continuous improvement.
- You excel in communication and relationship-building, working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams and engaging effectively with patients, families, and stakeholders to achieve meaningful health outcomes.
