About your opportunity

In partnership with the Professor of Nursing and Midwifery, the Nurse Researcher leads the advancement and delivery of nursing and midwifery research across Townsville Hospital and Health Service (THHS). This role fosters an evidence-informed learning culture aligned with the Registered Nurse and Midwife Standards for Practice set by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia. Through leadership in research, education, and support, this role strengthens best practice and contributes to the delivery of high-quality patient care.

This is a temporary part-time, 21/09/2026 - 28/02/2027 (28 hours per fortnight.  PLEASE NOTE: There is a possibility of an additional 12 months extension. 

About the department

The Nurse Researcher works within the THHS Clinical Education and Research team, delivering a comprehensive range of nursing and midwifery education programs. Portfolios of the team includes graduate nurse and midwifery education, the Clinical Partnership Program supporting undergraduate nurses and midwives, scope of practice, digital learning, occupational violence prevention, ongoing professional development, and research.

The service supports educational initiatives within the wider HHS and aims to enhance staff knowledge and skills with high-quality, accessible training, professional development, and research opportunities to ensure Townsville Hospital and Health Service (THHS) has a skilled and capable workforce that supports the organisations overarching vision and purpose.

  • Salary range: $70.58 to $76.63 p.h. (NG7)
  • 12.75% employer contribution to superannuation
  • 5  weeks (pro rata) annual leave with 17.5% loading

  • Plus Salary Sacrificing options may be available

Requirements:

  • Qualification: Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent certification relevant to the position is mandatory.
  • Highly Desirable: Possession of a Research Degree is highly regarded.
  • Applicant ideally will have a working knowledge of a range of software packages used in the clinical and management environment, e.g., Microsoft Windows, Excel, Access, Matrix & Power Point.
