Work Where Variety Isn't a Bonus — It's the Standard!
Life in Weipa feels like one long postcard. Endless coastline, bright blue water, warm weather, and wide horizons — it's everything people imagine Cape York living to be. Groceries run? Shorts. Weekend plans? Something outdoors. Stress levels? Suspiciously low.
Weipa is friendly in a way cities forgot how to be. Neighbours help each other, kids grow up outside, and the community really cares. And surrounded by wild bushland and coastline, you get a sense of adventure every time you step outside. This is the kind of place where stories happen — the kind you'll retell for years.
Weipa Integrated Health Service is a regional hub offering emergency care, inpatient beds, maternity services, dental, mental health, child and family health, and chronic disease management.
You'll work across emergency, acute, outpatient and aged-care settings, supported by allied health, Indigenous liaison, and visiting specialists.
This is remote practice with breadth, autonomy, and strong community ties — perfect for a Medical Officer wanting to make a difference.
Give Dr Stephen Johnston a call (0432 280 603) for a chat — he would love to hear from you and discuss the role further.
Tell me more.. As a Medical Officer, you'll handle emergency presentations, inpatient reviews, outpatient clinics, chronic disease management, antenatal care, and community support programs. The service includes physiotherapy, radiography, social work, nutrition services, diabetes education, and Indigenous liaison support — giving you deeper cultural and clinical insights. The facility's multi-purpose design means your clinical exposure spans both acute and community-based care, supporting patients across all life stages. Telehealth extends your reach further, allowing patients access to specialist care without leaving Weipa.
Outside the hospital, Weipa offers fishing, beaches, wilderness, and strong community ties — the perfect combination of professional purpose and personal enjoyment. For clinicians wanting a role where their impact is visible and their skills grow quickly, Weipa offers an exceptional remote practice experience.
