About us:
Rockhampton Hospital is the heart of maternity care in Central Queensland, welcoming around 1,400 new arrivals each year. As the region's main referral centre, our Level 4 maternity service offers a warm, supportive environment where families are cared for every step of the way - from antenatal check-ups to birth, recovery, and specialised newborn care. Our modern facilities, including a Birth Suite, maternity ward, and Special Care Nursery, are designed to support both routine and more complex journeys into parenthood.
We pride ourselves on a team-based approach, working closely with community partners to provide seamless care, while our Midwifery Group Practice ensures women experience personalised, continuous support throughout their pregnancy and beyond.
About the role:
- Provide woman-centred midwifery care across the full continuum of pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period, working in partnership with women to support safe, personalised experiences while independently conducting births and caring for newborns.
- Take accountability for your clinical practice in line with Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia standards, exercising sound professional judgement, delegating appropriately, and coordinating care across a variety of settings including hospital, community and home environments.
- Contribute to a safe, high-quality service by adhering to and supporting the development of policies, participating in quality improvement activities, and mentoring, supervising and guiding students and less experienced staff.
- Support ongoing learning, leadership and innovation within the service by engaging in professional development, contributing to education and research activities, and collaborating with the multidisciplinary team to achieve best practice outcomes.
About you:
- You are a Registered Midwife with current AHPRA registration and a valid practising certificate, bringing the confidence and capability to deliver safe, high-quality care across the maternity continuum.
- You demonstrate strong clinical knowledge and skills, with the ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care, and are committed to working to your full scope of practice, with dual Registered Nurse / Registered Midwife registration highly regarded.
- You communicate effectively and work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, confidently delegating and supervising Enrolled Nurses and Assistants in Nursing while fostering a supportive team environment.
- You are motivated to grow and develop, applying evidence-based practice and continuous quality improvement principles while actively progressing your skills from novice through to advanced practice.
