Use your lived experience to support recovery and empower others within a collaborative mental health team at West Moreton Health!

Permanent Part-time opportunity - 38 hours per fortnight!

Assist consumers, carers, and families of those with a mental illness to develop a better understanding of recovery frameworks while utilising a lived experience of mental health issues to work towards achieving the best outcomes for consumers.

Under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld), there is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to have a personal lived/living experience of mental health and/or substance use issues, or a personal lived/living experience of caring for a person with mental health and/or substance use issues.

What you'll be doing

The key responsibilities of the role will include:

  • Serve as a positive role model to consumers and staff and as a source of information on their personal experience of managing their mental health.
  • Utilising experience, skills and knowledge in; consumer education, support and provide a responsive framework that meets the needs of consumers.
  • Support consumers to make positive changes towards recovery by identifying strengths and goals and planning to achieve these.

What we're looking for

Our ideal candidate will be someone who can demonstrate the following:

  • Demonstrated ability to share lived experience of recovery to assist consumers and staff within the role.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain relationships with consumers, carers, families, the community, health professionals and all service providers, while promoting an understanding of mental health.
  • Demonstrated ability to relate, empathise with, be aware of and see issues from the perspective of a consumer, their carers, and families.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries
  • Ability to show proactive and effective communication skills by actively listening, conveying consumer's requirements clearly and fluently, displaying appropriate empathy and adapting style accordingly.

Mandatory Requirements

  • Vaccinated against, and remain vaccinated against, certain vaccine preventable diseases (VPD) as outlined in the Health Employment Directive NO. 01/16
  • A personal lived/living experience of mental health issues and recovery and ability to advocate for and support people experiencing mental health issues.
