Your Opportunity: Senior Business Development Officer (First Nations) working within Community and Health

As the Senior Business Development Officer (First Nations), you will:

  • Lead strategic initiatives to grow TAFE Queensland, Brisbane’s commercial training opportunities with a focus on First Nations, Health and Communities, as well other areas of growth as required. 
  • Achieve annual revenue targets, expand the organisations commercial footprint in vocational education, and strengthen relationships with industry, government partners and First Nations organisations.

This position reports to the Manager, Commercial Sales. 

This is a Permanent, Full-time opportunity, unless otherwise determined. 

The position will be based primarily at South Brisbane campus however you may be required to perform work at other TAFE Queensland campuses.  

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the success of transformation and cultural change through promoting and modelling the established values of Safety First, Working Together, Focussing on our Customer, Taking Responsibility and Showing Initiative.
  • Collaborate strategically with senior managers to lead negotiations with key stakeholders, fostering partnerships that drive growth, revenue, and new business acquisition.
  • Monitor, analyse, and report on business performance metrics, including enrolment growth, revenue, and new business acquisition.
  • Lead the development of compelling presentations for key stakeholders to strengthen TAFE Queensland, Brisbane’s profile and maximise training outcomes.
  • Achieve commercial revenue targets as set by the Manager, Commercial Sales
  • Accurately record all commercial activities and contract details in TAFE Queensland’s Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Vocational Education and Training (VET) funding arrangements, legislation, and compliance frameworks and ensuring awareness of changes and new opportunities.
  • Build and maintain strong stakeholder networks and relationships t to generate revenue.
  • Act as a primary contact point for external stakeholders, ensuring alignment and collaboration while driving innovative outreach initiatives to increase opportunities.
  • Represent TAFE Queensland at industry events, forums, and promotional activities.
  • Liaise closely with delivery teams, marketing, and user choice services to ensure seamless program execution.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement in programme design and delivery.

How you will be assessed

The ideal applicant will be someone who has the following key capabilities:

1. Demonstrated flexibility and responsiveness, showing initiative, a positive attitude, and the ability to thrive in a dynamic, challenging and evolving environment.

2. Self-motivated to achieve regional outcomes while ensuring compliance with systems and practices governing the management and delivery of student and support services.

3. Proven ability to represent the organisation at external events and maintain strategic relationships with industry stakeholders.

4. Demonstrated understanding of industry workforce needs and the ability to collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders to influence improvements and drive innovation in training programs.

5. Demonstrated experience in business development within the education and training sector, combined with an understanding of Queensland’s frameworks.

6. High level communication, negotiation, influencing and presentation skills with the ability to engage and build rapport with diverse audiences.

Mandatory Qualifications/Requirements

Please note that this role is to be filled by a First Nations person and that non-indigenous people will not be considered. 

Highly Desirable Requirements

  • Experience in the VET sector, ideally with a solid understanding of industry and the assessment and analysis of workforce development and planning.
  • Tertiary level qualifications in business, commerce, health or related discipline.
