About the role

As a Senior Psychologist, you will take a lead role in delivering advanced psychological services, working closely with multidisciplinary teams to provide comprehensive assessment, formulation, and tailored therapeutic interventions. The role requires a high level of clinical judgement, with the ability to adapt evidence-based approaches to meet the diverse and often complex needs of consumers. In addition to direct clinical work, you will act as a subject matter expert, supporting teams across Metro North Mental Health through consultation, education, and capacity-building initiatives.

About you

Our ideal candidate will be someone who can carry out the following key accountabilities in accordance with the Metro North Health's values:

  • Provision of specialist intake review, psychological assessment, brief intervention and consultation and liaison services, in partnership with MNMH treating teams and primary care providers, for people who have a diagnosed or suspected intellectual and/or developmental disability with co-occurring moderate to severe mental health disorders and complex medical and/or psychosocial needs.
  • Provide high-level clinical advice and education to teams, relevant managers, and other stakeholders regarding intellectual and developmental disability in mental health alcohol and drug service delivery. Other stakeholders may include schools, NDIS, non-Government organisations, Office of The Public Guardian and disability advocates.
  • Utilise effective communication skills to optimise clinical outcomes and work cooperatively and effectively with consumers and carers; the multidisciplinary team; other Hospital and Health Services including other mental health services; government and non-government support agencies, General Practitioners, and Private Practitioners.
  • Engage in varied and complex inter-sectoral linking and liaison with relevant stakeholders and partnerships, including communication and interpretation of complex clinical information to secure the service needs of consumers.
  • Provide clinical leadership and participate in the identification, development, implementation and evaluation of quality, service improvement and/or research activities that enhance the delivery of the service and of clinical psychology practices, procedures and protocols that support the continuum of care, improve consumer care, and contribute to the development of an innovative specialised service.
