Consumer Advisory Committee Representative

Torres and Cape Hospital and Health Service (TCHHS)
Volunteer Position (with remuneration for participation)
Term: Initial 12 months, with possibility of extension

The Torres and Cape Hospital and Health Service (TCHHS) is seeking Consumer Advisory Committee Representatives who can bring lived experience, community insight, and a strong consumer voice into how health services are shaped across the Torres Strait, Cooktown and Cape York regions.

This is a role for people who want to influence how care is designed and delivered - not from the outside, but from within the system.

Although this is a volunteer position, participation is remunerated in line with the Health Consumers Queensland Remuneration and Reimbursement of Consumers position statement.:

  • $234 for activities up to 4 hours
  • $469 for activities over 4 hours

Meeting arrangements

The Committee meets quarterly. Meetings are held both virtually and face-to-face. The appointment term is for an initial 12 months, with the possibility of extension.

Consumer representative expectations

As part of this role, you are expected to:

  • Act in line with the Queensland Public Service Code of Conduct and treat all people with respect
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient, staff and organisational information at all times, including after your appointment
  • Declare and manage any conflicts of interest as they arise
  • Seek approval before publicly discussing committee matters
  • Engage responsibly with your community networks while respecting confidentiality requirements
  • Raise concerns appropriately through the Committee Chair or relevant TCHHS
