Your new role:
To provide clinical care under supervision and acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to satisfy relevant specialist college and medical board requirements to practice as a specialist. If the appointee qualifies to undertake the Transition Year of the College of Intensive Care Medicine (CICM) training programme, this role will provide this training. This position has been approved by the CICM for transition year training.
This position includes responsibilities for delivering education and training to medical students and other staff, under the supervision of the University of Queensland. Fifty percent of the role is dedicated to this function
About you:
The appointee who is undertaking the Transitional Year of the CICM training will initially work on the registrar roster. Over the course of the year, they will gradually progress under supervision and be given more responsibility. Towards the end of the year, if progress is satisfactory, they will work on the consultant roster under supervision. Progression of responsibility and level of supervision will be dependent on satisfactory performance.
Education portfolio (non-clinical)
- Leadership in improving and developing UQ PAH Southside Clinical Unit programs, including How to Be a Better Teacher, How to Be a Better Intern and Training Pathways
- Undergo further professional training in Education, as applicable
- Junior Registrars training that includes
- Acting as lead for local registrar education program (a two-hour session of protected teaching each week)
- Co-ordination of the teaching program
- Deciding on topics and allocating them to registrars for presentation
- Contributing to administration and delivery of simulation education - attend meetings of the Discipline of Anaesthesiology and Critical Care and other meetings of the UQ Faculty of Medicine as requested

The Princess Alexandra Hospital (PAH) is a tertiary health care centre providing care in most major adult specialties. We provide world class health care to Brisbane City's southern suburbs across emergency, medical, mental health and surgical services, including liver and kidney transplant.
