Your new role:
The Foot, Ankle and Lower limb Trauma Fellow will be directly involved in the daily care and operative treatment of foot and ankle, orthopaedic lower limb trauma and late reconstruction procedures in a large tertiary referral centre.
This role will have an additional component with regard to the management of multi-trauma patients. Management of these patients involve both operative and non-operative components of their care. This work is collaborative within a multidisciplinary team consisting of general surgeons and other surgical disciplines, as well as the Intensive Care and the Emergency Department.
The successful applicant would undertake research alongside the current research focus of the Orthopaedic Unit and / or Trauma Service.
About you:
- Construct early discharge plans and liaise with other specialities as required.
- Take part in roster for Trauma Service/ASU ward rounds on multi-trauma patients in the Intensive Care Unit (Monday – Friday).
- Attend orthopaedic trauma handover meetings (Monday – Friday from 7:00).
- Supervise or perform a broad spectrum of foot, ankle and lower limb trauma orthopaedic/trauma procedures.
- Attend speciality outpatient clinics.
- The expected conduct and capabilities will include:
- Must have highly developed clinical skills and proven empathy and understanding from the patients' perspective and be able to communicate key information to the patient and carers.
- Must show a strong commitment to the development of multidisciplinary approaches to clinical care and be able to work as part of a team.
- Must have demonstrated ability to train junior medical and nursing staff.
- Must have a clear understanding of the discipline as a whole including major international trends in the discipline and be aware of recent major developments or improvements in care impacting on the discipline.
