Role details

The Child and Adolescent Unit at the Mackay Base Hospital is seeking applications for a Clinical Nurse (Chronic Illness) to join their team on a permanent basis.

Your opportunity

The Clinical Nurse provides advanced level clinical skills to ensure patient-focused evidence-based nursing care, plans and coordinates the clinical management of patient/client care and provides leadership and support to other nursing staff within the Child & Adolescent Unit. The Paediatric Chronic Illness nurse undertakes case management of children and adolescents with a chronic disease with the exception of diabetes.

About the Team

The Child and Adolescent Unit comprise a 12 bed inpatient paediatric ward, paediatric outpatient clinic and paediatric ambulatory care service.

The Ambulatory Care Service comprises Diabetes Educator Clinical Nurse, Chronic Illness Clinical Nurse, Connected Care CN and Paediatric Outreach Clinical Nurse, also Clinical Nurse Consultant Paediatric Haematology/Oncology Case Manager. 

The Child & Adolescent Unit caters for children with medical, surgical, orthopaedic and oncology conditions from 0 to 16 years. This Unit liaises closely with the district rural facilities, acting as the referral centre for their patients and has tertiary referral to Townsville, and Queensland Children's Hospital Brisbane.
