By working hand-in-hand with the Banana Midwifery Group Practice, you will champion a midwifery-led model of care, providing the medical support and clinical oversight necessary to keep the service robust and safe. To ensure your personal professional development remains a priority, this role includes structured, sessional rotations across the broader Central Queensland Health network.

About us:

Biloela Hospital is a 25-bed facility serving as the primary healthcare hub for the Callide Valley and surrounding Banana Shire districts. We are transforming local care through major infrastructure upgrades, including a completely rebuilt operating theatre specifically designed to support the return of maternity services.

Our facility integrates emergency, inpatient, diagnostic, and surgical services, backed by strong allied health teams and Telehealth technology. We pride ourselves on cultivating connected teams and a welcoming, family-friendly workplace culture.

About the role:

  • Provide high-quality primary and secondary rural generalist medical services across inpatient, outpatient, and emergency settings.
  • Deliver clinical governance and specialist support for the Banana Midwifery Group Practice to ensure a safe, sustainable level 2 maternity service.
  • Mentor, supervise, and support the ongoing professional development of doctors-in-training, medical students, midwives, and nursing staff.
  • Lead day-to-day maternity quality and safety initiatives, including clinical audits, case reviews, and proactive risk management.
  • Participate in facility rosters to deliver comprehensive out-of-hours and weekend emergency medical coverage.
  • Collaborate flexibly across multiple CQ Health sites, utilizing outreach and digital health platforms to serve rural families.

About you:

  • You hold a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent and maintain current registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
  • You hold a Fellowship of ACRRM or RACGP, or are an actively enrolled trainee working toward fellowship, with advanced skills in obstetrics (such as DRANZCOG Advanced).
  • You hold current Advanced Life Support (ALS) and Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications.
  • You demonstrate high-level competence in primary rural hospital practice, trauma management, and emergency medicine.
  • You possess the ability to work autonomously, manage a diverse clinical workload, and provide collaborative leadership within a multidisciplinary team.
  • You communicate with exceptional empathy and clarity, demonstrating a strong commitment to patient safety, continuous improvement, and education.

What we offer:

Total remuneration value of up to $534,437 p.a. (L25) is comprised of:

  • A salary between $192,257 - $265,550 p.a. (L13 - L25)
  • 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
  • 17.5% leave loading
