Senior Medical Officer (Psychiatry)

This position will provide child and adolescent psychiatry services as Senior Medical Officer to eCYMHS. You will therefore be expected to have the knowledge and skills to safely provide a broad range of high level professional and expert clinical psychiatric services to optimise assessment and treatment of children/adolescents and their families accessing CYMHS services throughout Queensland. Alternative part-time hours may be negotiated with the Medical Director CYMHS.

About the Team

The electronic Child and Youth Mental Health Service (eCYMHS) provides a specialist paediatric telepsychiatry network to specific rural and remote CYMHS clinics across Queensland. eCYMHS provides access to specialist mental health services for children, adolescents, and their families as close to home as practicable. In addition to telepsychiatry and outreach clinics, eCYMHS supports community capacity by providing consultation liaison, case-based education and other professional development activities to a range of regional stakeholders (such as General Practitioners, schools, Government and other Non-Government Organisations). eCYMHS also works in partnership with applicable Hospital and Health Services (HHSs) to deliver the Queensland contribution to headspace. This role works alongside the HHS mental health, alcohol and other drug (MHAOD) clinicians who provide consultation liaison and clinical in reach services to young people aged 12-25yrs accessing dedicated headspace centres in regional Queensland.

About the Role

In this role you will coach and support others to deliver for children, young people and families (Leader of Others) in accordance with the Children's Health Queensland Leadership Excellence Framework and the Queensland Public Service and the CHQ values. Your contribution will include:

Clinical Practice:

Provision of psychiatric consultation services to eCYMHS. When working in liaison with headspace centres, this includes provision of care to young people up to age 25 years.

  • Availability to conduct initial assessments of children and adolescents, and their families.
  • Conduct regular psychiatric reviews of children and adolescents across eCYMHS.

Communication / Team Participation:

  • Liaison with other treating specialists, GP's, hospitals, private practitioners and community case managers of children and adolescents referred to eCYMHS.
