Role details

The Child and Youth Mental Health Service at the Mackay Community Health Centre is seeking applications from Occupational Therapists or Psychologists or Social Workers or Clinical Nurses to join their team on a temporary basis.

Your opportunity

  • Work within a multidisciplinary team to provide mental health case-management services to clients with a chronic and/or severe mental illness. Case-management will include assessment, intervention and treatment as well as group work as required, in accordance with professional standards and legislation (Mental Health Act 2016; State and National plans and polices).
  • Work collaboratively with consumers and multidisciplinary professionals to provide clinical care and a therapeutic environment conducive to the dignity and well-being of consumers and carers within the integrated Mental Health Service (IMHS).
  • Provide discipline specific services and consultation as required within the team and the service.
  • In addition to the above, the Mental Health Clinician is required to participate in an intake roster shared amongst CYMHS clinicians.

About the Team

Child and Youth Mental Health Service (CYMHS) comprises several programs -

  • The community CYMHS team provides intake, assessment, treatment and case management services to young people (and families) with moderate to severe mental health issues.
  • The Assertive Mobile Youth Outreach Service (AMYOS) team provides intensive treatment and case management services to young people with complex presentations not well suited to the clinic-based model of CYMHS.
  • Evolve Therapeutic Services provides specialist treatment and case management services to young people who are in the care of Child Safety.
  • The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Consultant facilitates our work with First Nations clients.
  • The Forensic Liaison Officer works with mental health clients who are involved with the justice system or are assessed to be a high risk for violence.
  • The Court Liaison Officer works with mental health clients who are involved in court processes.
  • The Intake role provides intake, assessment, referral and treatment to young people who are referred to the Child & Youth Mental Health Service or present to Emergency. The major focus of the position is to provide an effective and client-focussed response to young people (and their families) experiencing a mental health crisis. The intake clinician also participates in our brief therapy program which offers short- term clinical interventions where appropriate. The intake position will sit with and be supported by the larger community CYMHS team. They are rostered to provide clinical services during business hours, extended hours and weekends. When rostered on for after-hours shifts CYMHS intake clinicians will sit with the Acute Care Team with support and direction being provided by senior staff on the Acute Care Team as appropriate.
