About the role

You will provide clinical leadership in shaping, delivering and sustaining a specialised allied health service supporting patients undergoing awake neurosurgical procedures at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital (RBWH). The role focuses on enabling a coordinated, contemporary approach to care that integrates across neurosurgical, oncology and allied health teams and responds to the complexity of patient needs across the continuum of patient selection, preoperative screening and assessment, intraoperative testing, discharge planning and post operative follow up.

About you

Our ideal candidate will be someone who can carry out the following key accountabilities in accordance with the Metro North Health's values:

  • Apply advanced level contemporary knowledge, skills and experience in adult neurology and neuro-oncology (including an understanding of prognosis, treatment modalities and disease trajectory) to the management of patients with brain cancer, epilepsy and movement disorders undergoing an awake craniotomy.
  • Utilise advanced level communication and interpersonal skills to confidently, clearly and professionally communicate with patients and the neurosurgical team within team meetings and the theatre environment. This includes the ability to identify and manage patient anxiety and needs intraoperatively using evidence-based techniques under high-stress conditions.
  • Lead the development, implementation and ongoing optimisation of the awake craniotomy allied health model of care at RBWH, working in partnership with consumers, neurosurgical services and allied health leaders to deliver a consumer-centred, evidence-informed and sustainable service.

  • Value driven organisation which provides a work environment that is safe, satisfying, flexible, and promotes a healthy work-life balance
  • Flexible working arrangements and competitive salary rates with annual incremental increases
  • Benefit from a higher than standard employer contribution to Superannuation of up to 12.75% and access to salary packaging
