About us:

Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service covers an area of 142,900 square kilometres. We go as far as Tully in the south, Cow Bay in the north and Croydon in the west.

Public Health focuses on the health and wellbeing of populations, rather than of individuals. CPHU aims to minimise the morbidity and mortality from communicable and vaccine-preventable diseases, and environmental health hazards, thereby: CPHU fulfils the public health regulatory services on behalf of the Department of Health to ensure sound public health standards are maintained in communities.

About you:

In your new role you will......

  • Apply specialist research skills and knowledge to engage with researchers across Cairns Public Health Unit and at various career stages to support the design of evidence-based research projects.
  • Lead the development and implementation of health research project tools, templates and other resources to encourage and enable research by all professional disciplines and career stages.
  • Provide expert advice on research planning and development activities, including identifying suitable research priorities, writing protocols, guidelines and standards with minimal supervision.
  • Identify opportunities and lead the development and delivery of research initiatives and activities that increase the capacity and capability of CPHU staff to undertake high-quality research.
