About the role

The Senior Medical Officer/Staff Specialist or Senior Staff Specialist – Cardiology provides specialist clinical care in the diagnosis and comprehensive treatment of cardiovascular conditions for First Nations patients attending Institute of Urban Indigenous Health (IUIH) and other Metro North outreach clinics. Working within the Cardiology Program, the role delivers consultant-level cardiology services through outpatient clinics, supporting improved access to specialist cardiac care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

The successful candidate will provide outreach cardiology services across designated clinic locations including Caboolture and Strathpine, while contributing to research, education and clinical governance activities. The role also involves collaboration with primary healthcare providers, supervision of junior medical staff, participation in quality improvement initiatives and support for the delivery of culturally responsive cardiovascular care.

Our ideal candidate will be someone who can carry out the following key accountabilities in accordance with the Metro North Health's values:

  • Provide high-quality specialist cardiology care through outreach outpatient clinics, including assessment, diagnosis and management of cardiovascular conditions.
  • Build strong partnerships with IUIH, primary healthcare providers and Metro North services to support coordinated and patient-centred care.
  • Supervise and support junior medical staff, registrars and medical students while contributing to a positive learning environment.
  • Participate in research, clinical audits, quality assurance and service improvement activities that enhance cardiology services and patient outcomes.
  • Deliver culturally responsive care for First Nations patients while promoting equity, respect and excellence across the healthcare continuum.
