About the role

The Senior Medical Officer/Staff Specialist or Senior Staff Specialist – Cardiology provides specialist clinical services in the diagnosis and comprehensive treatment of cardiovascular conditions, with a particular focus on First Nations patients attending Indigenous Cardiac Outreach Program (ICOP) sites. Based within the Cardiology Program at The Prince Charles Hospital, the role delivers high-quality, cost-effective cardiology care across outpatient, inpatient and interventional settings.

The successful candidate will provide outreach cardiology services across regional and remote Queensland, support general cardiology and coronary interventional procedures, participate in education and research activities, and contribute to the ongoing development of cardiology services. The role also involves teaching junior medical staff, supporting quality improvement initiatives and working collaboratively with healthcare providers across the care continuum.

About you

Our ideal candidate will be someone who can carry out the following key accountabilities in accordance with the Metro North Health's values:

  • Provide specialist cardiology services, including outpatient, inpatient and interventional care, ensuring high-quality outcomes for patients with cardiovascular disease.
  • Deliver outreach cardiology clinics through the Indigenous Cardiac Outreach Program, supporting improved access to specialist cardiac care for First Nations communities.
  • Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, primary care providers and regional health services to coordinate comprehensive patient care.
  • Contribute to teaching, supervision and professional development activities for junior medical staff, medical students and other healthcare professionals.
  • Participate in research, clinical audits, quality assurance and service improvement initiatives that support excellence in cardiology practice.
