About the role
The Senior Outpatient Pharmacist – Inflammatory Bowel Disease provides a highly specialised clinical pharmacy service within the Gastroenterology Department at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, the role is responsible for supporting the safe, effective and evidence-based use of medicines for patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) across both inpatient and outpatient settings.
The successful candidate will provide advanced expertise in gastroenterology pharmacotherapy, coordinate and support biologic therapy management, contribute to therapeutic drug monitoring initiatives and provide specialist clinical advice to healthcare professionals, patients and carers. The role also contributes to research, quality improvement, medication safety activities and the education and supervision of pharmacy staff.
About you
Our ideal candidate will be someone who can carry out the following key accountabilities in accordance with the Metro North Health's values:
- Provide advanced clinical pharmacy services and expert advice relating to Inflammatory Bowel Disease and gastroenterology pharmacotherapy.
- Monitor and optimise biologic therapies and other high-risk medications to improve therapeutic outcomes and minimise adverse events.
- Collaborate effectively with gastroenterology, surgical and multidisciplinary teams to support evidence-based patient care and continuity of treatment.
- Contribute to clinical research, medication safety programs, quality improvement activities and the development of pharmacy services.
- Provide clinical supervision, education and mentoring to pharmacy staff while supporting patients and carers in the safe and effective use of medicines.
