Role details

The Division of Medical Services at the Mackay Base Hospital is seeking applications for a Clinical Nurse Consultant (Melanoma) to join their team on a temporary basis.

Your opportunity

The MCCN (Melanoma) provides care, information, and support for people with melanoma across the continuity of care pathways and in conjunction with multidisciplinary teams across the melanoma care community within the health service, greater cancer care network and region. The MCCN (Melanoma) will provide collaborative clinical and supportive care for people and their families, along with the facilitation of communication across the multidisciplinary melanoma care team.

The MCCN (Melanoma) will have expert knowledge regarding the spectrum of melanoma care, inclusive of health assessment, treatment pathways, referrals, and on-going facilitation of clinical and supportive care.

The MCCN Melanoma delivers expert nursing care, clinical advice and support to inpatients / outpatients, nurses, and other health care professionals with regards to high risk and advanced melanoma. The CNC Melanoma Nurse is an advanced practice nursing role that incorporates high level clinical service, clinical leadership, research, education, and clinical services planning and management to optimise patient outcomes. The MCCN Melanoma will be expected to work predominantly within the treatment settings for advanced and high-risk melanoma. The MCCN Melanoma will work closely with the Medical Oncologists and General Surgeons as a key part of the treatment team. Specialist Melanoma Nurses will sub-specialise within the areas of surgical and medical oncology nursing.

The MCCN (Melanoma) meets the person with melanoma as close to diagnosis as possible and liaises with the dermatology, surgical, medical oncology, radiation oncology, palliative care and allied health departments ensuring the continuity of care and services

About the Team

Our aim is to facilitate a holistic, non-discriminatory, and quality health service for adults across the continuum to achieve quality outcomes for all patients ensuring safe discharge and appropriate follow up care.

The Cancer Services team is a multidisciplinary team comprising of nursing, medical, pharmacy and allied health professionals. The team provides holistic, evidence-based quality health care for adults across the continuum to achieve quality outcomes for all patients including safe discharge and appropriate follow up care.

Our nurses provide education, treatments, support and assistance to patients, carers and other health professionals. The MCCN Melanoma works in close collaboration with the Oncology and General Surgical Medical Teams, CNC Cancer Services, CNC Cancer Care Coordinator, CNC Medical Oncology Rapid Access Service and the Specialist Cancer CNCs for Breast, Lung and Prostate Cancer to ensure streamlined pathways for consumers.
