Launch your scientific career with one of Australia's leading public pathology services. As a Clinical Assistant in the Analytical Chemistry Unit (ACU), you'll apply basic scientific knowledge and practical skills to perform a broad range of pre-analytical procedures with accuracy, care and consistency. You'll learn all operational aspects of the laboratory while providing valuable support to scientific staff and contributing to the delivery of high-quality diagnostic services.

Job details

The ACU is a specialised laboratory delivering testing for newborn screening (including genomics), therapeutic drug monitoring, toxicology, trace element analysis, metabolic disease profiling, steroid hormones, vitamins, porphyrins and biogenic amine analysis. Working alongside experienced scientists, you'll gain exposure to cutting-edge laboratory technologies, including tandem mass spectrometry, HPLC, UPLC, GC-MS, QTOF, ICP-MS and next-generation sequencing (NGS).

Key competencies (role specific criteria)

You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:

• Knowledge of pathology testing and its diagnostic, therapeutic and monitoring role in disease and health
• Proven ability to work autonomously and as part of a team to ensure efficient workflow and accurate results
• Effective time management skills, attention to detail and ability to focus in a highly process driven environment with competing priorities
• Excellent communication skills, computer skills and positive attitude
• Experience with automation and/or liquid handling robots in a pathology laboratory
• Proven ability to show initiative, identify problems and suggest solutions.
