About the Team

The Social Work and Welfare Department at QCH is a dedicated, multidisciplinary team committed to supporting the psychosocial well-being of children, young people, and their families. Operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, our department provides compassionate, trauma-informed, person-centred care across various clinical settings, including Acute, Medical, Oncology, Child Protection, CHQ at Home, and Post-Trauma services.

Our leadership structure comprises the Director of Social Work, Consultant, and Clinical Leads who oversee specialised teams within the department. These teams are further supported by a diverse workforce, including Domestic and Family Violence (DFV) Specialists, Bereavement Services, Spiritual Care Coordinator, Welfare Officers, and Allied Health Assistants. Together, we work collaboratively to address the social and emotional needs of our patients and their families, assisting them in coping with and adjusting to health conditions or injuries, and strengthening their emotional and adaptive capabilities.

About the Role

The position of Advanced Social Worker – CHQ Bereavement Service Coordinator will:

  • Provide leadership in the delivery of a contemporary model for Bereavement Care and coordination that is fit for purpose for Children's Health Queensland (CHQ) Hospital and Health Service. The position is responsible for implementing a standardised CHQ response for bereaved families and their community of supporters that aligns with the Australian Health and Quality Standards.
  • Work collaboratively to implement a paediatric bereavement model that:
  • Is informed by contemporary literature, draws on current theory, best practice models of care, benchmarking and scoping of similar services from a national and international perspective.
  • Ensures broad stakeholder consultation, that is inclusive of hospital and community-based partners and bereaved family members.
