The Clinical Nurse Consultant demonstrates specialised nursing knowledge and advanced clinical skills in infection prevention and control (IPC). They are responsible for coordinating and actioning components of the design, management, implementation and evaluation of a range of strategic IPC initiatives and activities.

Your key responsibilities:

  • Provide specialist nursing expertise in contemporary IPC practice and patient safety in the context of the health system as a whole.
  • Use evidence, innovation, and expertise in analysing complex IPC issues and planning, implementing, and evaluating interventions.
  • Coordinate, action and manage strategic policies, procedures, and guidelines relevant to IPC in both hospital and community-based settings.
  • Successfully develop, deliver, and evaluate IPC projects through to completion, providing regular progress reports, and ensuring timeframes and budgets are met.

Role fit

The essential requirements for this role are:

  • Demonstrated specialised nursing knowledge and advanced clinical skills in IPC.
  • Demonstrated ability in the effective planning, implementation and management of priority IPC strategies and projects.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills including demonstrated ability to prepare and contribute to high level technical and interagency guidelines, documents and working groups.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills and conceptual ability, with capability for analysis of health data and innovative problem-solving.
