Based within the Central Core Laboratory, you'll receive comprehensive training in Core Chemistry while gaining exposure to pre-analytical processes in Central Specimen Reception, providing you with a broad and rewarding laboratory experience. You'll perform a diverse range of testing including routine chemical pathology, immunoassays, arterial blood gases, therapeutic drug monitoring, drugs of abuse testing, selected serology and protein assays.

As part of a collaborative team of Health Professionals and Clinical Assistants, you'll contribute to an essential continuous pathology service and enjoy opportunities to expand your skills in a modern multidisciplinary laboratory.

Key competencies (role specific criteria)

You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:

  • Experience in the performance of Chemistry and/or Immunoassay investigations.
  • Theoretical knowledge and understanding of chemistry and immunoassay principles and procedures
  • Proven ability to solve problems and show initiative in the workplace.
  • Well-developed communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated involvement in process improvement and client liaison activities.
  • Understanding of laboratory quality systems and the requirements of NATA accreditation and ISO certification.
  • Awareness of the human resource management policies applicable to contemporary workplaces.
  • The successful applicant will be expected to participate in the Core Chemistry continuous shift roster, and may work a combination of day, afternoon, evening and overnight shifts within each fortnight.
