What you'll do

As the Medical Laboratory Scientist Microbiology, you will perform a broad range of diagnostic microbiology and molecular testing activities, including specimen processing, microscopy, culture interpretation, organism identification, sensitivity testing, and the analysis of patient specimens. You will apply scientific judgement to verify and validate results, provide clinical advice where appropriate, and contribute to the delivery of high-quality laboratory services that meet the needs of the Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service. Working as part of a collaborative laboratory team, you will participate in quality assurance programs, maintain accurate laboratory records, perform analyser maintenance and troubleshooting, and manage consumable stock levels. You will also contribute to the development of scientific practices, procedures and protocols, apply problem-solving skills to support service continuity, provide scientific leadership commensurate with your experience, and foster effective communication with colleagues and internal and external stakeholders to ensure optimal client satisfaction.

About you

We are searching for someone who has:

  • a tertiary degree (or equivalent) formal qualification(s) in medical laboratory science or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated knowledge, expertise, and skill in the delivery of scientific/technical judgement within a microbiology and molecular laboratory.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively as a member of a microbiology and molecular team.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply established principles to a microbiology and molecular service with provision of results and clinical advice in a client focused manner.
  • Demonstrated ability (or ability to rapidly acquire the skill) to identify, develop and implement quality and service improvement activities in accordance with NATA/ISO accreditation/certification.
