The Delivery Office is seeking multiple Senior Medical Laboratory Scientists to join the team. In this role, you will act as a subject matter expert for the AUSLAB laboratory information system and associated interface systems. These systems are critical to supporting Pathology, Forensic and Scientific Services, Public and Environmental Health, and Revenue Services across Queensland Health. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the delivery of safe and effective clinical services by ensuring the seamless operation and configuration of laboratory information systems.

The role:
In this role, you will leverage your scientific expertise and laboratory experience to design, develop, and implement business processes, workflows, and protocols that support the effective operation of laboratory information systems within Pathology Queensland and Forensic and Scientific Services. You will play a key role in triaging and analysing change requests, assessing clinical and workflow impacts, and prioritising solutions to meet operational needs.
Using your independent judgement, you will identify and mitigate scientific and clinical risks, collaborate with stakeholders to design and test system configurations, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
Additionally, you will foster strong relationships with clinical and operational stakeholders, develop clear documentation to guide system configuration, and actively contribute to the continuous improvement of laboratory and clinical practices. Through ongoing professional development and engagement with stakeholders and vendors, you will maintain and enhance your knowledge of pathology and laboratory practices to deliver high-quality, impactful outcomes.
Is this opportunity for you?
- This role will be system testing for the Laboratory Information System and will not be actively doing clinical work within the Laboratory.
- Comprehensive understanding of the technical, scientific, instrumental, and clinical aspects of pathology laboratory operations, information technology and the provision of state-wide pathology services.
- High-level knowledge of scientific or laboratory practice and their integration with laboratory information systems.
- Demonstrated knowledge, expertise, and skill in information technology, including software development, programming and configuration.
- Experience in the analysing scientific, technical or organisational problems and developing effective system-based solutions.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve day-to-day scientific and information technology issues in a pathology, public health or forensic pathology setting.
- Demonstrated ability to develop, contribute to, and maintain accurate technical and business documentation, such as business requirements, specifications, and work instructions.
- Demonstrated ability to provide scientific leadership and advice to peers, clients and others on evidence-based methods and best practice influencing standardisation of scientific and clinical workflows within laboratory and clinical information systems.
- Well-developed ability to interact and communicate efficiently and effectively at all levels with staff and other stakeholders.
- Proven ability to collaborate in a multidisciplinary team.
