The Role

An opportunity has become available for several Clinical Nurses (Geriatric Evaluation and Management and Acute Cognitive Unit) to join Gold Coast Health (GCH) where the focus of our 14 000-strong team is on providing world-class health care to people living in the Gold Coast, and northern New South Wales region of Australia.

You will

  • Exemplify expertise in the care of the general medical patients, older persons, comorbidities, and the aging process
  • Collaborate with the service line Nurse Educator to maintain a quality service with a high standard of care delivery
  • Provide advanced clinical advice and coaching to support the education of patients, family, and carers promoting health literacy
  • Support the shift with team leadership, clinical competence, patient flow, education and development of the nursing team in the unit

About you

To be successful in this position you will require:

  • Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent  
  • Registration with the Nursing Midwifery Board of Australia
  • Evidence of vaccination, or be able to be vaccinated against and remain vaccinated against - Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis and Hepatitis B
  • Tuberculosis screening, to identify if the tuberculosis vaccination may be required
  • Declaration of serious discipline history must be disclosed
  • Criminal History Screening will be required for new employees (GCH will cover cost)

Salary

  • Permanent full time and permanent part time (one full time position and one part time position, 64 hours per fortnight)
  • Base salary ranging from $113,979 - $122,048 per annum or $57.48 - $61.55 per hour

About Us

The Geriatric Evaluation and Management and Acute Cognitive Unit (GEM & ACU) provide Level 5 services as defined in the Clinical Services Capability Framework v3.2 and sits within the division of Medicine.

The unit delivers a total of 22 sub-acute inpatient beds to provide suitable accommodation for the care and treatment of older persons by multidisciplinary teams. The unit consists of 12 GEM beds and 10 ACU beds.

The Geriatric Evaluation and Management (GEM) model provides multidisciplinary, psychogeriatric care with a restorative focus.

The Acute Cognitive Unit (ACU) will focus on the care of older people living with dementia and experiencing Behavioural and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia (BPSD).
