Pathology Queensland sits within the Clinical Support Queensland (CSQ) branch. CSQ plays a critical role in the planning, coordination and delivery of services that support diagnosis, treatment, and patient care, working in partnership with Hospital and Health Services to improve health outcomes for all Queenslanders. Pathology Queensland (PQ) provides diagnostic pathology services to all Hospital and Health Services (HHS) across metro, regional and remote Queensland and plays a critical role in the government's response to public health threats, epidemics, and civil emergencies.

About the role:

As a Scientist, Molecular Diagnostics, you will apply independent scientific judgement in the analysis of patient specimens within the Molecular Diagnositcs department leading to the verification and validation of test results and the provision of advice to the clinical unit where appropriate.

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Apply independent scientific judgement in the analysis of patient specimens leading to the verification and validation of test results and the provision of advice to the clinical unit where appropriate.
  • Undertake diagnostic testing and related duties, following Pathology Queensland established accredited protocols and standards in the disciplines of Virology and Molecular Biology in accordance with prescribed professional and ethical standards.
  • Participate in quality and service improvement activities to continually improve patient care.
  • Actively participate in the Serology/Molecular team as required.
  • Develop scientific knowledge and expertise through active learning within the team and by engaging in professional development activities.
  • Commensurate with level of experience provide scientific training and supervision for less experienced scientific and operational staff.

About you:

You will bring demonstrated expertise in Molecular Microbiology and Serology, with proven capability to perform diagnostic testing, interpret clinical results, and apply relevant laboratory methods and procedures. As a collaborative team member, you will contribute to a multidisciplinary diagnostic service, delivering accurate results and clinical advice in a client-focused manner. You will also be committed to quality excellence, identifying and implementing service improvements while ensuring compliance with NATA/ISO accreditation and certification standards.
