What you'll do

As the Principal Technology Officer, you will maintain defined enterprise service levels by delivering high-quality technical expertise, support, and administration of Windows server environments in accordance with departmental standards, policies, procedures, and IT service management (ITSM) processes. You will provide specialist advice and technical expertise to support the installation, configuration, and ongoing management of hardware, firmware, and software on Windows servers, ensuring alignment with departmental frameworks and best practices. You will also assist in the clarification, prioritisation, and timely delivery of technical tasks to ensure service commitments are met and operational objectives achieved. In addition, you will adhere to established service quality standards, workplace health and safety requirements, and organisational policies and procedures to contribute to the delivery of safe, reliable, and customer-focused technology services.

About you

We are searching for someone who has:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and technical skills in ONE or more of the following: (SFIA: TECH Level 5) with the intention of using/managing the roles
    • Microsoft Windows Server 2016, 2019, 2022 and 2025 (OS and Hardware)
    • Citrix Published Apps (following LTSR currently CVAD 2402) , PVS ,
    • Virtualization (VMware vSphere)
    • Active Directory /DNS /DHCP / Group Policy
    • Microsoft Clustering SQL.
    • Web Servers Technologies (IIS7, 7.5 and 8.5, )
  • Demonstrated technical expertise in supporting enterprise infrastructure, providing technical guidance and professional advice, and contributing to the development and application of technical standards within a large, customer-focused organisation. (SFIA: ITOP Level 4, TECH Level 4)
  • Demonstrated ability to apply and support ITIL Service Management practices and contribute to their continual improvement, particularly in incident, problem, change and configuration management on windows servers. (SFIA: USUP Level 4, PBMG Level 4, CHMG Level 4, CFMG Level 3)
  • Well-developed interpersonal, written and oral communication skills including the ability to negotiate, advise, influence others and work collaboratively with people to make decisions. (NHS: Effective and strategic influencing)
  • Well-developed ability to build and maintain appropriate relationships with team members, other technical domain specialists, application specialists and end users. (NHS: Collaborative Working)
  • Demonstrated skills in the analysis of IT system issues and the formulation, design and provision of appropriate solutions and improvements.
